Al-Basit is the One who spreads out and expands — opening provisions, easing difficulties, expanding the chest with relief, and extending grace in all directions like a hand opened wide after being clenched. The root b-s-t (بسط) means to spread, to lay out, to expand generously — and Al-Basit does this for whom He wills, when He wills, in the way that is best. After every period of tightness under Al-Qabid comes the expansion of Al-Basit — this rhythm is embedded in the design of human life and the nature of the seasons. When the contraction has been long and the waiting has been hard, Al-Basit is the name to hold: expansion is His to give, and He has given it to you before.
