As-Sami' is the All-Hearing whose hearing encompasses every sound in existence simultaneously — every voice, every whisper, every silent cry, every prayer, every private conversation that has ever occurred or will ever occur. The Quran presents Hajar crying alone in the desert with her infant, and As-Sami' hears her — water springs forth from beneath her feet. It presents Hannah praying silently in the temple, her lips moving but no sound coming out, and As-Sami' hears her prayer and grants her a son. The most powerful prayers in history were the ones whispered by people who had no one else to hear them. As-Sami' hears the ones that never reach human ears.
