Al-Latif is the Subtle One — gentle in His dealings, knowing the finest and most hidden details, and working through means so delicate they are often invisible until long after the fact. The root l-t-f (لطف) carries meanings of softness, refinement, and a gentleness that works beneath the surface. He does not always work through dramatic interventions: often He works through a chance meeting, a word read at the right moment, a sudden shift in the heart, a door that opens without explanation. The Quran tells us of Yusuf (Joseph): after years of betrayal, imprisonment, and abandonment, he could finally say 'My Lord is Latif toward whom He wills.' The subtle grace of Al-Latif is always working, even when — especially when — you cannot see it.
