Al-Hasib is the Reckoner who keeps a perfect, comprehensive, and flawless account of every action of every soul in every moment of creation. The root h-s-b (حسب) means to count and reckon, and Al-Hasib's reckoning has no gaps, no errors, no forgetting, and no possibility of being manipulated or deceived. The Quran tells us 'Allah is sufficient as a Reckoner' — meaning you need no other advocate, no other witness, no other scorekeeper. Al-Hasib also carries a meaning of sufficiency: He is enough for you in all circumstances. This name is both sobering and comforting: sobering because nothing goes unrecorded, and comforting because every atom of sincere goodness is equally preserved in His account.
