Al-Karim is the Generous — but in a generosity that exceeds all human conceptions of giving. The root k-r-m (كرم) in Arabic carries meanings of nobility, abundance, and a giving that flows from inherent greatness rather than calculation of benefit. Al-Karim gives before you ask, gives more than you ask for, gives even when you are ungrateful, and gives again even after you waste what He gave. The Prophet ﷺ described Allah as being 'more generous than the wind' — and the wind gives to every land it passes through, regardless of whether the land deserves it. When you raise your hands in du'a, you are not petitioning a reluctant King — you are calling on the Most Generous Being in existence.
