Al-'Ali is the Most High — elevated above all of creation in a way that transcends every category of height: above every throne, every rank, every concept, every scale of comparison that the human mind could devise. The scholars distinguish two dimensions of this name: 'uluw al-dhat (highness of essence — He is above creation) and 'uluw al-qadr (highness of attributes — His qualities are incomparable). It is crucial to understand that His elevation does not mean distance from the believer: Allah can be Al-'Ali — supremely exalted — while simultaneously being closer to you than your jugular vein. Elevation and intimacy are not contradictions in the divine nature.
