Al-Wadud is the Loving — from root w-d-d (ودّ) which describes a love that is warm, tender, longing, and deeply personal — not the cold love of obligation or the calculated love of benefit. This is perhaps the most intimate of all the Beautiful Names: Al-Wadud loves His servants the way a heart loves, not merely the way a will decides. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allah is more loving toward His servant than a mother is to her child' — and a mother's love is itself the human benchmark for irrational, unconditional devotion. Al-Wadud does not love you for your performance — He loves you as a person He created, knows completely, and chose to call toward Himself. Nothing you do can earn this love; it is already yours.
