Al-Awwal is the First — the One before whom there was nothing, who existed before existence itself, uncaused and without beginning. The Quran says: 'He is the First and the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden' — four names in one verse describing the total and all-encompassing nature of the divine presence across every dimension of reality. Al-Awwal means there is no question 'what came before Allah?' — not because the question is forbidden, but because it has no referent: time, space, and causality are His creations, and He precedes and transcends them all. Contemplating Al-Awwal is an invitation to rest: you did not originate from randomness; you were created by a Being who was already there, purposeful and complete, before any of this began.
