An-Nur is the Light — not a metaphor for guidance, but literally the Light: the source from which all light in creation derives its existence and its character. The Quran's famous verse of light (Ayat al-Nur, 24:35) describes Allah as 'the Light of the heavens and earth' — a Light that is multilayered, from the physical light of stars to the spiritual light of guidance to the ultimate light of divine consciousness illuminating all of existence. An-Nur is the name for every moment of spiritual darkness: when the heart cannot find its way, when faith feels opaque, when the path is hidden — An-Nur is the original Light whose nature is to illuminate. You cannot be in a darkness that An-Nur cannot penetrate.
