Al-Hadi is the Guide — the One who guides whom He wills to the straight path, and whose guidance is not merely the provision of information but the actual granting of the capacity to follow it. There is an important distinction in Islamic theology between the general guidance (bayan) that Allah provides to all people through prophets, scripture, and reason, and the special guidance (tawfiq) of Al-Hadi — the actual enabling of the heart to respond, accept, and walk the path. Without Al-Hadi, all the information in the world is insufficient to guide a soul. Every act of worship therefore contains a prayer to Al-Hadi: 'Guide us to the straight path' — for guidance is not a one-time event but a moment-to-moment grace.
