الْقُدُّوسُ

Al Quddus

The Purest

Al-Quddus comes from the root q-d-s (قدس), meaning absolute purity and transcendence from all defect. He is holy in a way that no created thing can fully comprehend — free from every limitation, weakness, need, imperfection, or resemblance to anything in existence. The angels continuously declare His holiness in their worship: 'Subhana rabbiyal-Azim' — acknowledging that their own consciousness cannot contain His perfection. Reflecting on Al-Quddus invites the believer toward their own purification: the one who knows the holiness of God desires to cleanse their heart, speech, and actions — not out of fear alone, but out of longing to draw closer to the One who is pure.
