Ar-Ra'uf is the Profoundly Compassionate — a compassion that is tender, deeply felt, and specifically responsive to vulnerability and weakness. The root r-'-f (رأف) is more intense and emotionally warm than even Ar-Raheem — it is the compassion that is moved by the sight of suffering, that responds with tenderness to fragility. The Quran uses this name especially in contexts of divine care for the believers in difficulty: 'Allah is Gentle and Compassionate toward the believers.' This is the name to hold when you feel your suffering is too small to matter, too ordinary to deserve divine attention — Ar-Ra'uf is precisely the One who responds with tender care to the suffering others might dismiss as trivial.
