Al-Muqsit is the Equitable — the One whose dealings are characterized by perfect fairness, balanced proportionality, and absolute equity in all things. The root q-s-t (قسط) means to deal justly, with a precision of balance that no human scale can fully measure — giving each its due, no more and no less. Al-Muqsit is distinguished from Al-'Adl (the Just) by its emphasis on the equitable distribution of what is due: where Al-'Adl emphasizes the correctness of the judgment, Al-Muqsit emphasizes the perfect balance of the outcome. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The equitable ones will be on pulpits of light on the Day of Judgment' — and Al-Muqsit's own equity is the model and the source of their reward.
