Al-Jami' is the Gatherer — the One who will assemble all of creation, every soul that ever lived, for the final accounting on the Day of Judgment. No soul will be absent, no matter how many centuries have passed since its death, no matter how completely its body has decomposed, no matter how far its atoms have scattered across the earth, the sea, and the wind. Al-Jami' also gathers in another sense: He brings together disparate things in beautiful and unexpected ways — uniting the divided, connecting the separated, bringing opposites together in His creation. The Quran uses this name in a supplication: 'Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt' — the gathering of Al-Jami' is the ultimate reckoning with reality.
